The Future Of Melbourne

Crises, Opportunities and Contenders for our City

"Unless the Church is able to find meaningful ways of communicating biblical truth on moral values to a generation that is not listening to "outdated" moralising, western civilisation will not survive." (the Australian Prayer Network)

INTRODUCTION
There are many serious and urgent issues facing the future of our city. They include the rapid decline in personal relationships, private and public morality and values, personal well-being and health, and the rise of intentional opposition to Christianity.

THESE ARE SPIRITUAL ISSUES
They arise as a result of the lack of life-giving Christ-centred witness by the Church and the absence of united, intentional leadership and influence of the Church in society. The Christian Faith is the Foundation and Hope of our Society.

THE RESOURCES OF HEAVEN ARE AVAILABLE TO THE CHURCH
* There are great resources and opportunities available within the whole church.
* Corporate repentance and commitment to seek Jesus and His Kingdom are keys to revival.
* The Spiritual Awakening our grandchildren's city needs must start with the Church -NOW!

Will the Church Claim the Future? Or continue as it is?

Morality is a poor excuse for the transformation done by the HS. The law had purpose, even the Sabbath was designed for the animals and resident aliens in Israel- read it ! The law itself is functional- look at its practicality, look at why it was there- so if law fails in its function- there is a need maybe for new understanding- RULES were not the point. I made a table of the instructions given in Ephesians- an each one had a so, then, etc... associated as propositions. Our best morality can actually be unloving, if it is disaassociated from its purpose.

Love is the point- primarily for God, secondly for people. Jesus said if you love me you will obey me- and what is that but to love him and others. So simple ! Love is not just peace or some fuzzy feeling- though it helps. Love is the hard commitment to be a disciple in thick and thin of Jesus Christ- to take the cross for another who may not deserve it or even tell them a gospel and hope, they do not want to hear about.

We can all be freed from bonds of slavery to sin through the power of the Holy Spirit and the self-control He gives. Its good not confuse personality with spirituality and learn how to discern this, because God has made each of us unique and knows each of us personally and individually.

On selfish prayer. Its ok to pray for one's self, God was pleased with Solomon's prayer, and not only honoured it but with associated perks- despite his falling away later on, because of 'foreign wives.'

We must pray repentance, that the Lord fills us with his persepctive and a desire to do the work- despite the challenge of our sin, the world's sin- even resistance from our siblings. We must pray for true unity where the barriers to true biblical love are broken somehow within our ecclesia's. We need to know that we are one in HIM, Our Lord Jesus Christ. To put his name on top of the Xmas tree, the mountain, our minds, hearts, souls and devote strength here too.
